Our Approach to Display Advertising Management

Display is the easiest place in digital to waste money, so we buy it like performance media rather than impressions. That means watching where ads actually land — not just how many placements a report claims — and cutting the made-for-advertising sites, app inventory and fraudulent traffic that quietly absorb a budget. We buy banner and native placements across Google's Display Network and additional programmatic inventory, and we are honest about what the underlying data can and cannot support — including the hyperlocal and geofencing pitches that promise more precision than their location data can actually deliver. Our approach involves:

The Strategy Behind the Results

Auditing Placement Quality

Before we scale anything, we look at where the ads are actually running. Placement reports get reviewed line by line, and the made-for-advertising sites, junk app inventory and obvious bot traffic get excluded. A smaller list of quality placements almost always beats a larger one padded with waste.

Developing Dynamic Creative

We’ll test a mix of static (HTML) and responsive display ads – providing Google and related display channels with images and designs that give your brand the best opportunity to drive clicks from relevant members of your target audience.

Testing Placements & Strategy

Rather than going all in on one type of display ad, we like to help clients test a variety of factors – from a/b testing creative to trying different display channels to identifying multiple audience segments. These tests lead to improved learning for us, you, and the ad channels.

Tracking & Reporting of KPIs

We’ll track and report on everything from link clicks to conversions. Our goal is to produce creative that has strong CTRs, and delivers quality web traffic – that means that we’re also looking at what happens after the ad was clicked, and how many users took action on your website.

Scale

Once we’ve hit a predictable and profitable ROAS target for your business – we start scaling. We look to increase our spend in winning campaigns and continue to deliver a cost-per-acquisition that helps your brand stay profitable while actively increasing customers and revenue.

FAQs – About Display Ad Management

01 How do you bill for your ad management with display advertising?
For display advertising, if we are already managing your Paid Search or Paid Social ads, then display ads are typically baked in at no extra cost. If we are not doing your paid search or social, there may be additional costs involved with both Creative Services labor and media placement and tracking. We’d recommend getting a free quote to learn more.
02 How do you measure success on display advertising?
While it is good for us to benchmark CPMs and CTR against industry averages, we understand that the name of the game for almost all of our clients is sales. So for us, we like to track conversion events on your website – whether that be add to carts, purchases, form fills, or calls – and attribute conversion data back to display ad efforts to identify which ads are providing the most ROI.
03 Which programmatic channels do you have access to?
In addition to our display advertising through Google’s Display Network, we have the ability to access a wider range of display and banner ad placements through our programmatic inventory partner. This allows us to serve basic programmatic display ads, native ads, sponsored content, and more. Programmatic buying is largely about the audience you’re reaching — interests, demographics, geography — but we pay just as much attention to where the impressions land, since that is where budgets tend to leak.
04 We’ve been pitched geofencing and hyperlocal targeting. Is it worth it?
It depends entirely on the data behind it, which is the part that rarely comes up in the pitch. Hyperlocal targeting is often built on location signals that are inferred rather than observed — derived from IP addresses instead of device GPS — so real-world accuracy can be much looser than meter-level precision claims suggest. Geographic targeting still has a place; the questions worth asking are where the location data comes from, how it is verified, and what you are actually paying a premium for. We are happy to look at a proposal you have been given and tell you what holds up.
05 How do you deal with ad fraud and low-quality placements?
Display inventory includes a meaningful amount of made-for-advertising sites, junk mobile app placements and outright invalid traffic. We review placement reports rather than trusting a summary, build exclusion lists as campaigns run, and watch post-click behavior on your site — because traffic that bounces instantly is a signal regardless of what the impression count says.
06 What do you need in order to audit our display ads?
If you are doing your display ads through Google, we would just need for you to provide our team with VIEW access to your Google Ad Account by adding our email to your account users. For other programmatic channels, we would need to be able to see your display assets (via Google Drive or Dropbox) and also be able to view reports that you can share with our email.
07 How does your team handle the creative portion (photo, design) of display ads?
Our in-house creative team produces the needed assets for both responsive display and static banner ads – and those are included at no additional cost.
08 What does the process look like to get started?
We begin with a proposal. From there (once signed), we would schedule a Discovery Meeting to get things started, and launch within 3 weeks.
